Professor Brian King joined the School of Hotel and Tourism Management in 2012. He was previously Professor at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia where he held various Faculty and University wide roles. His industry experience includes management roles with tour operations (Wigwam International), airlines (Qantas), and hotels (Tourism & Leisure Corporation). He is a current or previous board member of various organizations including Destination Melbourne, Ocean Spirit Cruises and Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School. His research expertise is in tourism and hospitality marketing with an emphasis on cultural dimensions, emerging Asia-Pacific markets and destinations. He has also explored the intersections between tourism, migration and international education. He has written several books on tourism marketing, VFR travel, resorts and Asia-Pacific tourism.
He is the Foundation Co-editor-in-chief of Tourism, Culture and Communication. He is also the Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Tourism Research, Tourism Economics, Tourism Recreation Research, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Vacation Marketing, Tourist Review, Tourism Review International, Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality and Tourism, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism, Hospitality and Society, International Journal of Tourism and Travel, Journal of Educational Travel, Journal of Regional Development and Journal of Tourism Research & Hospitality.
He is currently Visiting Professor at Edinburgh Napier University and has also been Visiting Professor at Universities in Italy, Fiji and the USA. He has consulted extensively to international agencies on tourism marketing and workforce development. He has received various best paper awards, including at the Council of Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) conference in 2006 and at the APTA conference in 2011.
He is a frequent media commentator and chair/facilitator of industry excellence awards and is an elected Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism (IAST) which consists of the world’s leading tourism scholars. He has a longstanding commitment to enhancing the reputation and effectiveness of tourism education and chairs the assessment/accreditation panel of the International Centre for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE). He is a Fellow of THE-ICE and of CAUTHE.
Prof. Dr. Vikneswaran Nair
Prof. Dr. Vikneswaran Nair is the Programme Leader for the Responsible Rural Tourism Network at Taylor’s University in Malaysia and a Professor in Sustainable Tourism at the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts. In addition to that he is also the founding and former Director of the Centre for Research & Development, Taylor’s University. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the field of sustainable tourism and environmental management. A seasoned and award winning researcher and consultant with extensive publications to his credit, he was honoured as the Outstanding Young Malaysian of the Year Award in 2006 and 2009. He is currently the Vice President of Malaysian Ecotourism Association. In 2007, he was elected as the President of the Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Educational Institution (CHRIE) Federation. He was also the former Secretary and the Executive Committee Member of the Tourism Educators Association of Malaysia. His latest accolade is when he was awarded a RM9million national research grant from the Ministry of Higher Education’s Long Term Research Grant Scheme for the project, “Multidimensional Responsible Rural Tourism Capacity Framework for Sustainable Tourism”.
